Watch behind the scenes – Madeline Isaac James Candlelit Collection 2011

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

GTL 3

In April, I spent two days on location at the Elvetham Hotel in Hampshire (www.elvethamhotel.co.uk) creating makeup looks for the fabulous Natalie Gladman, who is the designer of the Madeline Isaac-James Bridal Collection.

With 30 dresses to shoot over two days, it was a very intense 2 days – but with the beautiful weather (which enabled us to use the breathtaking gardens to get some amazing shots, as well as inside the main house) and with the fabulous team that I worked with, it resulted in the most divine shots for the Madeline Isaac-James 2011 Campaign.

The team that I had the pleasure of working with were: Astrid Joss (the most amazing stylist), photographer Jonathan & assistant Maike weddingsbyryan.com , hairstylist Inanch, assisted by Vessy (& Joe) from www.inanch.com, model Cristyn, PR Nicola & Craig from www.catwalkcreations.com/

As the 2011 campaign has 2 different looks, we worked on each on 2 separate days. The Candlelit Collection is very 1950’s inspired with gorgeous, full skirts and the Starlet Collection more 1920’s and 1930’s – think Hollywood glamour, slinky and elegant. The makeup and hair was very different for each collection, but the makeup look I am going to talk about first of all is the Candlelit Collection.

Watch the behind the scenes video of myself and the team creating the shoot:

As the dresses were very romantic, I created a look with flawless skin, softly defined eyes and a dewy pink cheek and lip.

Here is a list of the products that I used – so you can use the same products as I did to re-create the look for yourself. All of the products I used on this shoot are by Daniel Sandler Cosmetics (www.danielsandler.com):

Re-texturising Face Primer, all over face
Catwalk Compact Foundation, applied using Base Brush
Hide It Under Eye Concealer
Invisible Blotting Powder, applied using Contour/Powder Brush
Watercolour Blushers in shades Cherub and Lover (mixed together)
Eyeshadows in Opal (on browbone), Rosy Tan (on lid) and Charcoal Plum in the socket line.
I defined the eyes using the Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Grey Velvet.
On the eyelashes, I used Jumbo Jet Mascara on the top lashes and Baby Jet Mascara on the bottom lashes.
On the lips, I patted on Luxury Lipstick in shade Joy and to complete the look, applied a small amount of Super Gloss in shade Super Clear.

Bigger, brighter eyes in an instant from Clinique – fall trend 2010

Clinique

Clinique brings the eyes into focus with it’s ‘Bigger, brighter Eyes in an instant’ Fall 2010 Colour Collection, proven to brighten and intensify eyes whatever your shade or shape. It is available at Clinique Counters nationwide now.

As most brides request that I enhance their eyes on their wedding day when I ask them about the style of makeup that they would like, I thought I would tell you about this new collection.

untitledIf you are applying your own wedding makeup, this is an easy way to achieve pretty eyes. The Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duo colours are in ultra-flattering colour duos which can be used together to shade, highlight, line and contour, creating a multitude of looks.

To create your personal eye makeup look using the Clinique Fall 2010 Colour Collection, follow these steps:

Blend Quick Eyes Cream Shadow all over lids, from lashline to brow bone. Apply the light shade of Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duo on lower lids only, from inner to outer corner of eyes. Use the dark shade to contour along the crease, from midpoint to outer corner.

Line your eyes using the Limited Edition Quickliner for Eyes Intense - the extra creamy new formulation glides on smooth and intensifies the eyes for up to 12 hours.

Next, curl your lashes and apply the Limited Edition High Impact Mascara – this deep black shade creates the necessary contrast against the whites of the eyes to create a youthful, vibrant look.

New Tattoo Secret Tattoo Camouflage Kit

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

TattooSecret-pack closed product out A 300dpi

At last! For brides who have a tattoo that they want to cover on their wedding day, there is now a solution – the Tattoo Secret Tattoo Camouflage Kit.

There are many products on the market to cover tattoos, but often I have had comments from brides who have used them and said that they are heavy, thick products which are difficult for them to apply. This has meant brides often relying on a professional to do this for them.

I was so excited when I heard about this kit, as it sounded the perfect solution. If you have a tattoo for example at the base of your back, your wedding dress will cover it, but there are brides who have tattoos on their chest/ upper back/ arm and whilst they may love the look of their tattoo day-to-day, they want to cover it on their wedding day.

At £25, I think that this product is fabulous value.

The Tattoo Secret Kit comes with simple to follow step by step instructions. The makeup offers superb, natural coverage which is long-lasting, easy to apply and water resistant. With powder coatings in between the layers of camouflage creams, the coverage holds tight, even when touched or wet allowing coverage to last all day.

Tattoo Secret contains stacks of base and top coat shades to ensure a good colour match, plus all the tools to help you achieve a perfect finish. The kit is available in two colour ways, Light and Medium. I have personally tested this kit and the coverage I achieved with this kit is fantastic.

My top tip: make sure you practise covering your tattoo before the big day, do a couple of trials first. Your wedding day is not the time to try covering your tattoo for the very first time!

Daniel Sandler’s new Waterbase Foundation with Concealer

 New Waterbase Foundation

I adore the new Daniel Sandler WATERBASE Foundation and Concealer, which  is packed with minerals and moisturisers and gives the skin the most beautiful, dewy finish (which isn’t greasy).

When creating bridal makeup looks for a bride, I always make sure that her skin is flawless and radiant, without looking heavy and cakey.

This product is so clever, as you have two products in one handy and easy to use component:

The FOUNDATION….
As invisible as a Tinted Moisturiser, this barely-there oil-free formula disappears just like water when applied to your face leaving a youthful and glowing complexion offering you a seamless finish.

The CONCEALER…
Can be mixed with the Foundation to build up coverage where needed or can be applied directly onto blemishes or under-eye circles to disguise imperfections.

Having the two products in one component really does make this product special – you apply the foundation in a fine layer over the skin, so you have an even, dewy finish to your skin. For the perfect application, use the award winning Daniel Sandler Foundation Brush (RRP £20) to apply it (my clients always comment on how soft and luxurious this brush feels on the skin).

Then, you take the concealer to conceal any imperfections. You can also use the concealer to add a little more coverage where you would like it, so you have flawless skin, with extra coverage just in the areas needed, rather than applying a thick heavy foundation over your whole face (which is the mistake that some ladies make if they have any imperfections on their face).

Priced at only £25 and available in 3 shades, the Daniel Sandler Waterbase Foundation and Concealer is gorgeous for a summer bride or a bride getting married abroad – or just if you are looking for the perfect everyday summer foundation.

Stephanie Allin is one of the UK’s foremost award-winning bridal fashion designers. Stephanie’s commitment to excellence in design, beautiful fabrics and perfect fit have been her guiding principles over the past 20 years in Bridal Fashion. Her new 2010 “Dolce Vita”  Collection is stunning – I love the photographs from the campaign, which were shot in Puglia, southern Italy by photographer Matt Bird and the adorable hair and makeup look was created by Helen Hall.

This makeup look is all about a perfect, fresh looking skin, soft, smoky eyes and a soft lip colour.

Here are some product suggestions to help you re-create this look, I have chosen products from the CHANEL cosmetics range – you can purchase all of these products from www.boots.co.uk :

Use a foundation that will make your skin look healthy and flawless, without looking heavy – use CHANEL Pro Lumiere Professional Finish Makeup.

Make sure that after applying your foundation (I like to use a foundation brush), apply concealer where needed and set your makeup with a sheer dusting of loose powder.

Use a soft, pretty blusher and apply to the apple of the cheek and blend upwards and outwards. Try the CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush, in shade 56 (Tea Rose)

Stephanie Allin 1 - Copy

For your eyes, choose a palette which has all of the shades you need – the CHANEL les 4 ombres de Chanel is perfect, shade 84 (Galet)will make application easy for you, apply the medium tone to your eyelid and run a small amount under the bottom lashline. Contour the socket with the darkest shade (only apply a small amount) and choose the lightest shade to apply under your brow bone as a highlighter. Make sure you blend your eyeshadows well, as the key to this look is softly blended, romantic looking eyes.

Apply a fine, black line of the CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in black, curl your lashes and then apply a few coats of the CHANEL Immitable Waterproof Multi-Dimensional Mascara.

For lips, keep the look soft – apply the new CHANEL Rouge Coco lipstick in shade 04 Cashmere.

Get the look 3

This is a makeup look that I created last year, on a photo shoot at the Hotel Du Vin in Bristol with the fabulous photographer Rosie Parsons.

This is an example of how you can create a bridal makeup  look, using quite dramatic eyeliner on the upper lashline.

To achieve the perfect eyeliner will need come practise – however you do not need to ‘flick’ the eyeliner out at the outer corners. As this is a bridal look I finished the eyeliner just at the end of the upper lashline, which will also make it easier for you to re-create at home.

There is no eyeliner on the lower lashline, just a sweep of mascara – the drama is along the top lash line only.

If you are going to re-create this makeup look on your wedding day, it is really important to make sure that your skin is absolutely flawless and clean to the eye and that the lip colour is near to your own lip colour, just a hint of a shade darker.

If you would like to re-create this look, here is a list of key products that I used on the shoot:

1) I used skincare by Dermalogica to prepare the skin (www.dermalogica.co.uk)

2) Makeup by Daniel Sandler :

Base: Catwalk Compact Foundation
Hide It Concealer
Invisible Blotting Powder

Cheeks: Watercolour Blusher in shade Gentle

Eyes: Mineral in shade Opal on the brow bone
Sheer Satin Shadow in shade Coppered Bronze on the lid
I used ‘Rock Chick Eye Love It’ as the eyeliner
Baby Jet Mascara

Lips: High Impact Lipstick in shade Peony with Luxury Lipstick in shade Pucker layered on top

3) I used false lashes by Mister Mascara

All other pictures are under close guard until the collections’ launch – we shot 30 dresses over the 2 days, so there will be lots of other shots to show you and lots of makeup looks to talk about, but I wanted to share this gorgeous photo with you!

There are amazing beauty shots which were taken by the fabulous photographer Jonathan ww.weddingsbyryan.com  and these will be the shots I use to break down the makeup looks when they are released, as you will be able to see the makeup ‘close up’!
