Watch behind the scenes – Madeline Isaac James Candlelit Collection 2011

In April, I spent two days on location at the Elvetham Hotel in Hampshire (www.elvethamhotel.co.uk) creating makeup looks for the fabulous Natalie Gladman, who is the designer of the Madeline Isaac-James Bridal Collection.

With 30 dresses to shoot over two days, it was a very intense 2 days – but with the beautiful weather (which enabled us to use the breathtaking gardens to get some amazing shots, as well as inside the main house) and with the fabulous team that I worked with, it resulted in the most divine shots for the Madeline Isaac-James 2011 Campaign.

The team that I had the pleasure of working with were: Astrid Joss (the most amazing stylist), photographer Jonathan & assistant Maike weddingsbyryan.com , hairstylist Inanch, assisted by Vessy (& Joe) from www.inanch.com, model Cristyn, PR Nicola & Craig from www.catwalkcreations.com/

As the 2011 campaign has 2 different looks, we worked on each on 2 separate days. The Candlelit Collection is very 1950’s inspired with gorgeous, full skirts and the Starlet Collection more 1920’s and 1930’s – think Hollywood glamour, slinky and elegant. The makeup and hair was very different for each collection, but the makeup look I am going to talk about first of all is the Candlelit Collection.

As the dresses were very romantic, I created a look with flawless skin, softly defined eyes and a dewy pink cheek and lip.

Here is a list of the products that I used – so you can use the same products as I did to re-create the look for yourself. All of the products I used on this shoot are by Daniel Sandler Cosmetics (www.danielsandler.com):

Re-texturising Face Primer, all over face
Catwalk Compact Foundation, applied using Base Brush
Hide It Under Eye Concealer
Invisible Blotting Powder, applied using Contour/Powder Brush
Watercolour Blushers in shades Cherub and Lover (mixed together)
Eyeshadows in Opal (on browbone), Rosy Tan (on lid) and Charcoal Plum in the socket line.
I defined the eyes using the Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Grey Velvet.
On the eyelashes, I used Jumbo Jet Mascara on the top lashes and Baby Jet Mascara on the bottom lashes.
On the lips, I patted on Luxury Lipstick in shade Joy and to complete the look, applied a small amount of Super Gloss in shade Super Clear.

Stephanie Allin is one of the UK’s foremost award-winning bridal fashion designers. Stephanie’s commitment to excellence in design, beautiful fabrics and perfect fit have been her guiding principles over the past 20 years in Bridal Fashion. In 2009 her new flagship store in central London opened at 17 Chiltern Street, Westminster where Stephanie is showcasing her new bridal designs and a couture evening wear Collection.

Her new 2010 “Dolce Vita” Collection is stunning – I love the photographs from the campaign, which were shot in Puglia, southern Italy by photographer Matt Bird and the adorable hair and makeup look was created by Helen Hall.

This makeup look is all about a perfect, fresh looking skin, soft, smoky eyes and a soft lip colour.

Here are some product suggestions to help you re-create this look, I have chosen products from the CHANEL cosmetics range – you can purchase all of these products from www.boots.co.uk :

Use a foundation that will make your skin look healthy and flawless, without looking heavy – use CHANEL Pro Lumiere Professional Finish Makeup.

Make sure that after applying your foundation (I like to use a foundation brush), apply concealer where needed and set your makeup with a sheer dusting of loose powder.

Use a soft, pretty blusher and apply to the apple of the cheek and blend upwards and outwards. Try the CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush, in shade 56 (Tea Rose)

For your eyes, choose a palette which has all of the shades you need – the CHANEL les 4 ombres de Chanel is perfect,shade 84 (Galet)will make application easy for you, apply the medium tone to your eyelid and run a small amount under the bottom lashline. Contour the socket with the darkest shade (only apply a small amount) and choose the lightest shade to apply under your brow bone as a highlighter. Make sure you blend your eyeshadows well, as the key to this look is softly blended, romantic looking eyes.

Apply a fine, black line of the CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in black, curl your lashes and then apply a few coats of the CHANEL Immitable Waterproof Multi-Dimensional Mascara.

For lips, keep the look soft – apply the new CHANEL Rouge Coco lipstick in shade 04 Cashmere.

Get the look – liquid eyeliner

This is a makeup look that I created last year, on a photo shoot at the Hotel Du Vin in Bristol with the fabulous photographer Rosie Parsons.

This is an example of how you can create a bridal makeup look, using quite dramatic eyeliner on the upper lashline.

To achieve the perfect eyeliner will need come practise – however you do not need to ‘flick’ the eyeliner out at the outer corners. As this is a bridal look I finished the eyeliner just at the end of the upper lashline, which will also make it easier for you to re-create at home.

There is no eyeliner on the lower lashline, just a sweep of mascara – the drama is along the top lash line only.

If you are going to re-create this makeup look on your wedding day, it is really important to make sure that your skin is absolutely flawless and clean to the eye and that the lip colour is near to your own lip colour, just a hint of a shade darker.

Get the look – dramatic bridal eye makeup

This is a makeup look that I created for a bridal photo shoot. This look isn’t for every bride, it is a look which is for a bride who is used to wearing a lot of eye makeup and wants a darker, dramatic look on her wedding day.

Most brides who want a smoky eye makeup look on their wedding day tend to choose more of a softer version, but if you really want to stand out and create a dramatic eye makeup, this is how I achieved this eye makeup look:

You will need to make sure that you have applied foundation and powder to your eye area, so that you start with a clean base.

To make this look as easy as possible, buy a smoky eye kit – that way you will have all of the products that you need in one handy box for you to take to your wedding venue on the morning of your wedding (this will save you having to carry lots of separate items. Try the Too Faced Smoky Eye Kit (RRP £22.50, www.boots .com).

Get the look smoky

Using the ‘Classic Smoke’ colours in the kit, apply the lighter silver colour to the brow bone as a highlighter. Then take the darker grey satin shadow in the kit and apply to your eyelid. Make sure that you use good makeup brushes, as with smoky eye makeup the key is to make sure that you blend all of the colours well.

Next, take the darkest colour in the palette (the matte black colour) and using a small eyeshadow brush (I love the Daniel Sandler Smudger Brush, RRP £10 www.danielsandler.com) apply this dark shadow to the top and bottom lashline to make the eye makeup look more intense.

Lots of waterproof black mascara is needed for this look – make sure you curl your lashes first.

Remember if you are having a strong eye colour, use a more natural colour on the lips.

The pieces in their bridal range are so pretty - I decided to create a makeup look to compliment this – with flawless skin, defined eyes and a neutral lip.

Get the look – Stewart Parvin

The stunning new campaign from Stewart Parvin caught my eye when I was recently looking through Brides Magazine – it is beautiful and I wanted to talk about the beautiful makeup look, as I do think it is a wearable look for brides to re-create on their wedding day.

This beautiful campaign was shot in the Dorchester Hotel by photographer Rony Shram and this stunning makeup look was created by the wonderful Chase Aston, a makeup artist I have had the pleasure of working with in the past.

In 1996 Stewart Parvin launched his own collection and opened his Boutique in Knightsbridge. Stewart soon boasted an exclusive clientele ranging in age from 22 to 90, with many of his first season clients firm devotees a decade on. In 2000 he was asked to submit his sketches to Buckingham Palace and after immediate approval began designing some of the Queen’s most favoured outfits. He has since been commended for giving Her Majesty a fresher, lighter look and for creating some of her most eye-catching gowns to date. His work was included in the 2006 exhibition of Her Majesty’s dresses, ‘Dress for The Occasion’ at Buckingham Palace, and he was awarded an honorary fellowship of Edinburgh College of Art in their centenary year 2007. In the same year, Stewart received The Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of his work.

Today, Stewart has a London studio from where he designs all his pieces and keeps a close eye on the creation of each garment. He works with a small team, using only the most luxurious fabrics, fantastically creative embroiderers and seamstresses, ensuring that great care and detail is put into all of his ranges. His fame in the fashion industry comes as a direct result of this attention to detail and his unique and tastefully classic designs.

If you adore this makeup look and would love to re-create something similar for your wedding day, follow these tips:

Foundation: this look requires an immaculate, flawless medium to full coverage foundation. Try Creme de la Mer the Powder Foundation (RRP £65 www.cremedelamer.co.uk)

Cheeks: To re-create the gorgeous pink glow that the model in this campaign has on her cheeks, try M.A.C. Powder Blush in Shade Frankly Scarlet (RRP £16.50 www.maccosmetics.co.uk)

Eyes: To make this as simple as possible, keep the eyeshadow to a minimum, use a clean matte vanilla shadow all over the eye area and get the impact by taking your time to apply a flawless, black liquid eyeliner – try the Shu Uemura Liquid Liner Pen (rrp £11, www.spacenk.co.uk). Curl your lashes and apply several coats of black, waterproof mascara and if you have the confidence, apply a few individual eyelashes to the outer corner of your top eyelashes.

Lips: As you can see from the photograph, the strongest part of this look is the lips. If you love this bold look, you can apply your lipstick with a lip brush to achieve full coverage. For a softer version, you can ‘pat’ the lipstick colour onto your lips using your finger, this will give you more of a wash of colour. Get the look – natural bridal makeup

This is a makeup look that I created for a bridal photo shoot last year. It is a look that I am frequently asked to re-create for many brides on their wedding day as many brides like their eyes to be defined (this will look fabulous in your wedding photographs), along with dewy pretty cheeks and a soft pretty pink lip colour.

If you are applying your own wedding makeup, here are some tips as to how you can re-create this look yourself:

To achieve this wedding makeup look, follow these steps:

1) After using a light moisturiser, apply the Daniel Sandler Re-texturising Primer (£20 www.danielsandler.com) all over your face and using a foundation brush, apply the Daniel Sandler Super Mineral Makeup (£21, www.danielsandler.com) in a thin, even layer to your skin.

2) Using the Clinique Airbrush Concealer (£15, www.clinique.com), apply a small amount under the eyes to cover any dark circles and lighten and brighten the eye area.

3) To set your base, apply a small amount of La Prairie Translucent Powder (www.beautique.com) to your face and remember to powder your eyelids.

4) Smile on the mirror and on the apple of your cheek, apply a small amount of the Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blusher (£12 www.danielsandler.com) in shade Cherub.

5) Using the Shavata Brow Perfector (www.beautique.com), apply a matte shadow to your brows to add definition and to frame your eyes.

Get the look

6) For this eye makeup look, take The Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes Kit (£21.50 www.benefit.co.uk) and apply the lightest shade on your eyelid and brow done, the medium shade in the contour of your eye and use the darkest brown shade as your eyeliner. Curl your lashes and apply a few coats of black waterproof mascara.

7) For a soft natural look to the lips, apply the CHANEL Rouge Allure Lipstick Luminous Satin Lip Colour in shade Suprise (£21) and then apply a small amout of CHANEL Levres Scintillantes Intense Radiance Lipgloss in shade Silex (£18) on top (www.boots.com)

The British couturier, Bruce Oldfield, has opened a new atelier and boutique at No.34 Beauchamp Place, London, SW3, designed as the perfect bridal destination. This one-stop wedding shop includes couture, custom-made and ready-to-wear outfits for the entire wedding party.

Bruce Oldfield, who was awarded the OBE in 1990, has been a famous name in British fashion for more than 30 years, best known for his red carpet and couture occasion-wear for Hollywood stars, British and international royalty, the European aristocracy and has designed the wedding dresses for a host of high-profile brides, including Samantha Cameron, Queen Rania of Jordan, and Jemima Khan.

A Bruce Oldfield style of glamour, sophistication, luxury, expert craftsmanship and using only the most luxurious fabrics, will ensure that any bride will look and feel amazing on that special day.

When I saw the photographs for Bruce Oldfield’s bridal collection, not only did I absolutely adore his dresses, I also loved the whole look including the makeup, which was created by makeup artist Emma O’Byrne and the photographer of the shoot was George Bamford.

If you adore the makeup look in these photographs, here are a few tips to help you re-create this look on your wedding day:

Your foundation needs to be mid to full coverage and set with powder to achieve this flawless look to the skin. Try Diorskin Nude, Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup (RRP £28 , www.boots.com).

Cheeks are kept to a minimum, so as not to compete with the eyes and the lips. For a subtle look to the cheeks, try the Daniel Sandler Watercolour in shade Gentle (RRP £12, www.danielsandler.com).

Eyes – this look is all about the definition around the eye, as you can see in the above photograph, the model has a pretty shimmer on her eyes from the eyelid to the brow – use Lancôme Ombre Absolue Eyeshadow in shade Moonlight , which has a 6 hour hold (£16.00 www.lancome.co.uk). To define the top lashline, use the Shu Uemura Liquid Liner Pen (£11 www.spacenk.com) and draw a line across the top lashes, getting thicker towards the outer eye, to give a lift to eye area. The, take a matte black eyeshadow from Daniel Sandler (£10 www.danielsandler.com) and using an eyeliner brush, apply the matte black shadow over the liquid liner to add intensity and then apply the matte black shadow to the lower lashline – keep it near to the route of the lashes. Apply waterproof black mascara and for even more drama, you could add some individual false lashes to the outer edge of your upper lashes.

For lips, I would use the Daniel Sandler Automatic Long Lasting Lipliner in shade Heather (RRP £9) and then apply the Luxury Lipstick in shade Entice on top (RRP £13.00 www.danielsandler.com)

About Charlotte Balbier: With over 50 years of bridal expertise in the family, Charlotte comes from a bridal fashion house which isn’t afraid to go against the grain. Launched in 2003 the Charlotte Balbier brand has continued to grow and evolve; taking the bridal fashion industry in a brand new direction.

Charlotte’s dresses are adored by brides who are fashion concious and are looking for a dress that is feminine but at the same time a little different. I have seen many of Charlottes dresses and they are absolutely gorgeous and I love her advertising campaigns, which is why I wanted to write a ‘get the look’ piece on this particular campaign.

Shot in Manila, in the Philipines by photographer Frank Hoefsmit, the makeup in this shoot is soft, girly, romantic and very pretty.

This glowing look, using soft shades of taupe and pretty pink is the perfect look for a bride who wants a look to enhance her natural features and not look too ‘made up’ on her wedding day.

A major part of this look is a flawless, natural and dewy complexion – try Chanel Pro Lumiere Professional Finish Makeup SPF 15 (www.boots.com)

The cheeks are dewy and pretty in a soft pink tone – a must have for this look is the Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blusher is shade Cherub (www.danielsandler.com)

For the eyes think light, pretty colours from lid to brow – treat yourself to the Chantecaille Sylvie’s Quattro Palette (www.spacenk.co.uk) which has 3 beautiful and very wearable eyeshadow colours and a pretty blusher (which you could layer on top of the Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blusher for a more intense effect). Use a black mascara to enhance your eyelashes (don’t forget to curl them first)!

To complete the look, try the YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in shade Lingerie Pink (www.boots.com) on your lips and apply a clear gloss in the centre of your lip for a pretty, pink glossy finish to the lips.
